Edel Quinn's Story I attended an AWS meet-up in Douala, Cameroon where I met a couple of people in the tech field including a developer who has built applications and designed websites. I was fascinated by his work and even more fascinated by the fact that I could do accomplish similar tasks by learning how to code.

🙋‍♀️ Edel Quinn's Motivation

I first heard about SheCodes from my sister after she shared a project she had worked on, while learning how to code at SheCodes with me. I had started taking coding lessons too, but was not consistent. After she told me about SheCodes, I realized what I needed was a community like this that could push me to stay consistent by giving me assignments with timelines. I will also love to learn how to code with fellow women who will continue to inspire and motivate me to be consistent and intentional about gaining this skill.

🤹‍♀️ Edel Quinn's Hobbies

I enjoy travelling, taking pictures of nature and people, singing and swimming. I also enjoy learning.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
