Gaositwe Lillian 's Story I became interested in coding in 2019 during my data analysis. I was working with big data which could have taken a long time if I had not been able to learn programming. I started learning R software so that it could help me to download data that I needed within a short period of time. That time I managed to collect Geospatial data, manipulate and analyzed it in R-studio. Since then I became curious about programming and want to learn more and become an expert in coding.

🙋‍♀️ Gaositwe Lillian 's Motivation

Since we are moving towards the fourth industrial revolution which is a digital transformation, coding becomes an essential skill because most of the products and services will be digitized. Botswana is one of the countries that is left behind with coding particularly for women. Women need to stand up and be part of the digital transformation, so I want to grow professionally in the coding field to be part of the growing programming industry. Having read through SheCodes mandate I believe it can help me to grow professionally and join this male dominating industry. Women need to take a lead in this field and contribute substantial to the success of their countries.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
