Idayat's Story I was once a blogger and needed a website to share my thoughts, I had to watch tutorials on how to build my website from scratch and add buttons that are clickable, my friends loved it and asked me to help them build their website which I did and really enjoyed it, it was later in 2020 that I realized what I used to do was actually part of coding and a whole booming industry on its own. I did more research to learn more and go from basics to advanced skills and that is how I stumbled on shecodesfoundation.

🙋‍♀️ Idayat's Motivation

A lot of women in my country have startups that are innovative and should be visible to the world but they are not because they don't possess the right digital skills. I thought of the solution and realized I needed to go into the tech space and learn coding to be able to help these women by building their capacity on how to be tech savvy and make use of digital tools to scale their businesses. I have explored different platforms that offer coding courses including Youtube but what I noticed is that most of these courses are not well developed, advanced and doesn't include modules on how to test the knowledge I acquired, upon doing research and inquiries from friends, I was directed to try shecodes workshop. I knew this was the workshop for me when I saw that I get the opportunity to learn HTML, CSS, and other packages, test the knowledge I learned by doing homework, and projects while still being able to learn it at my own pace. Also, I want to ensure I am able to combine my former industry path which is communication with tech in order to be more relevant and be valuable in my new career.

🤹‍♀️ Idayat's Hobbies

The blogger is still in me so I love to read blogs, share my fashion and social media knowledge on Instagram for others to learn and I love dancing. Fun for me is meeting up with family and friends to spend quality time together, attending cultural events in my area, and watching new movies.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
