Joan's Story I was made aware of the program by my Aunt who saw it as a chance for me to explore my coding interests. I have always been a geek at heart as I am into gaming and website development. These interests were prevalent in my teenage years, though I did not have the proper opportunities to pursue the same. Thanks to Youtube I have been exposed to coding for beginners and this sparked the interest once again. This opportunity will not only help harness my skills but also revive a once dead dream.

🙋‍♀️ Joan's Motivation

I recently ventured into the marketing field and realized how online marketing is the key thing in this 21st century. Coding is a great way to adapt to the change in the market as it offers different opportunities in the digital market from design based thinking, web development and systems analysis . The additional skills will not only help me adapt to the ever changing job market, but I will also be able to pass the same knowledge to others at an affordable fee as coding lessons are not very affordable in our country as it is mostly taken as a full time degree course.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
