Malak's Story In high school, sixty percent of my grade depended on my Capstone project, which is simply a project we work on to solve one of the world's grand challenges. In our senior year, We depended on coding to program a simple website and an Arduino device. The way of using code to solve a specific problem fascinated me. The way each step builds up to a complete system made me excited to try a different code and see the new results. It was a super fun experience. After Graduation, I met some developers and searched more about this industry and found out I want to work in technology specifically, software. It has been hard to find a suitable way to start on this road until I heard about "SheCodes". I searched more about the organization and attended the free session which was helpful and made me realize that a workshop is a perfect way to get into programming. Unfortunately, as an Egyptian girl, It's hard to save money in dollars or even find a job without a bachelor's degree.

🙋‍♀️ Malak's Motivation

My motivation in one sentence is "Gaining experience and working in what I love". I am an 18-years-old Egyptian girl who has been interested in STEM subjects and solving problems for my whole life. I just graduated from a STEM school and have been trying different things to figure out how to start my career. I have been introduced to the programming world a year ago when I needed to learn some basics for a school project. After that, I joined a team for the "Nasa Space app challenge" as a video editor. This opportunity made me meet a lot of developers who have been in the technology industry for years and it made me more interested in joining this industry. After Graduation, it has been hard to find a suitable way to start on this road until I heard about "SheCodes". I searched more about the organization and attended the free session and I want to enroll in the courses. unfortunately, as an Egyptian girl, It's hard to save money in dollars or even find a job without a bachelor's degree.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
