Nelly's Story One day my curiosity started "playing" with a Coding app and this broke some "limiting beliefs" that I had around coding. I thought "is nothing for me" because I do not have an Informatics background. This app made it understandable and at the same time challenging, and with time I started researching more and found out the potential coding has worldwide. Developing my logical thinking is a great asset. I grew up in an educational system that is mainly focused on memory but not on critical and logical thinking so breaking these limitations and inserting new perspectives is something that has helped me explore myself in a new way.

🙋‍♀️ Nelly's Motivation

I want to learn a new set of skills for myself and work with people or/and companies that are in align with my set of values and an approach to build a more sustainable and equal world. I do want to provide better opportunities for myself, my family and support my personal entrepreneurial projects and generate a positive impact in my community through my personal development.

🤹‍♀️ Nelly's Hobbies

I love to stay active and have a special attraction to nature and outdoor sports. I practice sport climbing, which is a discipline that makes me face my fears and stay focused while grounding me and deepness my connection with nature and my body. I also love biking and use my bike most of the time even as my personal transportation inside the city. I am self-learning about the importance of breathing and breathing techniques and in the future, I will like to be a Certified Breathing Coach and share the immense benefits of this knowledge and practice. I also like to grow mushrooms for fun and as a future project, I want to own a mushroom farm to produce edible and medicinal mushrooms for my community. Mushrooms are wonderful creatures with so much potential. I also like to draw and I do volunteer work rescuing stray dogs/cats finding them good homes and also helping my local animal shelter with the animals and adoption campaigns.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
