Rosa's Story I learned a bit of coding from one university class, however it was a shallow experience and did not delve deeper into what coding could be. However, I developed an interest in coding and looked for ways to develop this skill. I had always thought that coding would be a tremendous challenge to undertake (as it involves a lot of critical-thinking and logical thinking) and I wouldn’t be able to learn to code unless I went to university again and got a degree in computer science or engineering. Then I saw SheCodes on social media, took the free 60-min class and really enjoyed every second of it. Matt is great at explaining and provided me with a great experience that got me excited to learn more about coding and eager to learn something new.

🙋‍♀️ Rosa's Motivation

My wish is to become financially independent and secure my financial future for my family. Living in a third world country, you don’t have many opportunities in the job market and unemployment is high. Even more, the wages are very low and inflation plays a big detrimental role in this. Coding is a broad field with many areas of specialization and lots of new career prospects. As a versatile and emerging field, coding provides ample opportunity for growth and development of my career. I would also be honored to represent the percentage of women that are starting to enter the technological job market in my country. Likewise, I would be able to participate in projects that will help improve society and even help improve my own country.

🤹‍♀️ Rosa's Hobbies

I enjoy reading a good book in my bed. I like to do pencil drawings of animals and nature, I find that very soothing and helps me disconnect from everything. I don’t really like to go out to parties with loud music, but I do enjoy having a nice get-together with friends or family and cook a nice meal for them from one of the thousand recipes I have saved on my phone. I love to play with my pets (2 dogs and 2 cats). Both cats were rescued by my mom and myself.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
