Sadiat's Story Plaksha's vision is to nurture the next generation of fearless leaders who will solve the toughest challenges of our planet using technology. Tell us how have you developed your interest in a tech career. Describe 2-3 personal experiences that have shaped this interest. If you are born into a family where none of your parents received any form of higher education, a family that lived in one of the rural areas in Nigeria, a typical family that could not afford to send their children to private primary school, a family that could not afford to eat three square meal a day and a family that believe in surviving the present without thinking of the future. You might have to grow up believing there is a limitation to what you can do. Your hope in becoming someone that can be really successful will be very small not to talk of helping others to achieve success. This was actually the kind of family I grew up in. Society made someone with my background believe we have a lot of limitations and we cannot solve our personal problems not to talking about society's problem. I grew up believing in all the limitations set for us by society because of my background. After I graduated from The University of Technology Minna, and could not secure a satisfying job, I picked an interest in learning to code, particularly website development which is mainly because I want to use the skill to make money in order to support my family. It surprised me, as I was able to HTML, and start CSS in a period of 3 months mostly on my own. This speaks to my identity as a tech enthusiast.later i began to read and learn more about coding After a month, I joined a newly launched organization that focuses on educating high school students about leadership and coding as a team member and later an instructor. The first project we carried out was to train 50 public high school student leaders and the basics of coding for five weeks. I got to educate the students about the opportunity in technology, how they can use technology to solve problems in their community and how they can get started with any career in technology. I also taught them how to code a simple website using HTML and CSS. Many of the students later decided to study computer science when they got to high school. I who grew with no hope thinking that i can not be of help to others now guiding and giving other people hope in technology. It was at this point I decided to become a full stack developer as it was a skill in the course that gave me hope and put me in the position to guide and help others to become great.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
