Trang's Story As I mentioned above, my interest in coding began when I wanted to change my career orientation. It was not easy to jump into something completely different from my education and experience since it took much time to explore myself and fill in my knowledge. I recognize that coding is essential to every aspect of our future jobs and life as well. Coding is not only for engineers or computer scientists but for everyone. I learn it to know how to solve problems in a smart, and approximately good solution. I approach it to enrich our experience in the embedded technology world. I use it for my creativity.

🙋‍♀️ Trang's Motivation

I am Trang Pham, from Vietnam, a graduate of Journalism and Communication. I was born and raised in a suburban community in Ho Chi Minh City, where during my high school I never had an interest in learning computing class since it was difficult and boring. However, everything changed last year when I decided to reinvent my knowledge and skills to shift to another career path, an interdisciplinary between communication and data science. It started with learning computational thinking, fundamental programming, and coding languages. It was so different for me, who did not have a computer science background or relevant degrees, to get along and comprehend many new concepts. Therefore, I would like to participate in the class at SheCodes to broaden my knowledge, practice skills, and connect with other fellows around the world. Here, I can find and get motivation from girls and women, who also have the same interest. Being a part of the SheCodes community is such a great chance to learn from hands-on experience, students, and experts in the technology industry; and broaden my intercultural communication knowledge.

🤹‍♀️ Trang's Hobbies

My hobbies are so common as other people. I read books, listen to music/podcasts, watch some films. Most films I've watched are on Netflix streaming. I think it's convenient because I can find many films in one place, but I also look for other films not available on Netflix. I don't have specific favorite movie genres (but no thriller please, it scares me). I choose films based on my mood, or topics like girls/women, nature, culture, etc. I hang out with my friends at lovely coffee shops around the city as well. (Vietnamese people love coffee so much that we have many coffee shops with different styles here.) I used to photograph some stuff, but not anymore. Thanks to my photojournalism course at university, I'm fond of observing photos, especially photo stories assignment. Through photos, I can learn about compositions, lights, colors, and more than that is human life. I can approach various backgrounds from different cultures, countries. It embraces stories from anyone and anywhere.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
