Gloria's Story As a teenager, I became captivated and absorbed in the world of computer technology, and this sparked my innate interest in learning about emerging computer technologies. During a Bioinformatics course in my undergraduate level, I was first exposed to coding and programming languages, which prompted me to venture and learn more about these technical skills. I would eventually be able to use these skills to hone my creative side and expand my coding knowledge, allowing me to design unique algorithms in the future. I moved on to take short courses in Bioinformatics and Artificial Intelligence, and I was fascinated by how different programs interacted and what I could accomplish in the research area if I also had excellent coding abilities. These trainings were also beneficial in encouraging me since they improved my understanding of how specific databases functioned, which drove me to learn more about how different platforms such as the Web, IOS, and Android worked on a whole new level.

🙋‍♀️ Gloria's Motivation

With a plethora of growing technology all around us, I developed a strong interest in diving into the complexities of computer programming. Even as a child, I was fascinated by troubleshooting any technological issues with phones, computers, and television sets, which made me desire to go further in the technology industry. Coding will be a terrific approach for me to increase my knowledge and strength in this sector. This will undoubtedly help me improve my employment abilities, allowing me to contribute to the IT business. As my professional goal is to work in the IT business, I would like to share my expertise with others so that I may make a constructive impact even to the next generation. Being a skilled professional in this area would also enable me to support my family, as I feel that coding will help pave the way for a brighter future in which I can commit my creativity to producing novel solutions that will benefit the ever-growing technology industry.

In my spare time, I like to write in my journal. It is vital for me to have my thoughts and ideas written down in an organized manner, which allows me to exhibit my creative side while also promoting excellent mental health. I also enjoy drawing illustrations since it allows me to create something from nothing, which could be useful in understanding the creative process of developing code.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
