Trang's Story When I started to research this new interdisciplinary sector, I came up with many new concepts, one of which is coding/programming. For years in major, coding had been on the other side, supposed to have very little benefit for our profession. However, coding is such an essential and a must skill if I wish to follow this path. Every achievement should begin with small steps. Therefore, I have been walking around computational thinking and basic coding courses to get myself along with such concepts.

🙋‍♀️ Trang's Motivation

I am Trang Pham, from Vietnam, a graduate of Journalism and Communication. My past experiences are most in the communication field with various positions from the research center, to the non-profit organization. While working, I recognized how technology has been changing the way we interact with our jobs and daily life, especially during these unprecedented times. How important data could contribute and leverage the impact of communication messages to improve human life. My major, however, focused on social sciences that did not offer me courses in data science/analytics to accomplish that goal. Hence, I would love to participate in your class to acquire knowledge and skills to develop my career path. More than that, SheCodes is a circle network of humble and aspiring female learners from all over the world in which I am very looking forward to connecting with and growing together.

🤹‍♀️ Trang's Hobbies

My hobbies are so common as other people. I read books, listen to music/podcasts, watch some films. Most films I've watched are on Netflix streaming. I think it's quite convenient where I can find many films in one place, but I also look for other films not available on Netflix. I don't have a specific favorite movie genre (but no thriller please, it scares me). I just choose films based on my mood, or topics like girls/women, nature, culture,... I hang out with my friends at lovely coffee shops around the city as well. (Vietnamese people love coffee so much that we have a lot of coffee shops with different styles here.) I used to photograph some kinds of stuff, but not anymore. Thanks to my photojournalism course at university, I'm fond of observing photos, especially photo stories assignment. Through photos, I can learn about compositions, lights, colors and more than that is human life. I can approach various backgrounds from different cultures, countries. It embraces stories from anyone and anywhere.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
