Millicent 's Story Straight after high school,I enrolled into university but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study. I studied accounting for about a year and I was the only one amongst my friends doing that degree. They were studying business management and information technology. I decided to switch to that degree. But it meant going back two years whilst my friends advanced. They would always scare me about one course in particular, coding. I would attend lectures in fear, hahaha. Exams came, I didn’t fail. Since then,I refused to let fear rule over me because I didn’t know something . Coding was challenging and also interesting. Sad part is, I never got to finish that degree but coding and database management were my 2 favorite courses. I’d go back to only study and master those 2 if I could.

I’m motivated by the desire to learn something new and create a better future for myself and my children. Life hasn’t been easy and I feel it’s time I grow up and learn a new skill. I’ve always been a numbers person and I want to explore that desire further.

🤹‍♀️ Millicent 's Hobbies

Reading and signing, for hobbies. I’m a creative woman and figuring out how things work has always been my biggest motivator for fun. When I say “things” I mean everything and anything. I’d love to know how submarines work, what it might feel like to live in a desert, the science behind why some people are evil and others good or how chemistry makes food taste nice.

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
