Aishwarya's Story As a young kid, I remember being introduced to the world of technology through WhatsApp. The ability to connect with my friends after school through text messages fascinated me, and it sparked my curiosity about how such platforms were created. Games like Subway Surfers captivated my attention with their immersive user interface, turning moments of boredom and loneliness into entertainment. As I transitioned into middle school, the internet became an invaluable resource for gaining knowledge and conducting research for my school projects. Whether it was using Google for information or browsing various websites, I marveled at the vastness of the digital world and the endless possibilities it offered. Every time I opened a new website, clicking on the right button of the mouse and viewing the source code became a fun ritual for me. Throughout my teenage years, social media platforms like Instagram and streaming services like Netflix and YouTube became a part of my daily life whenever I took a break from my studies. I found myself drawn not only to the content they offered but also to the underlying technology that powered them. The idea that lines of simple code could transform into a captivating social network or a seamless streaming experience intrigued me deeply. It were these experiences growing up, witnessing the impact of technology on everyday life, that first piqued my interest in coding. The ability to create something meaningful and impactful from just lines of code became a driving force behind my desire to delve deeper into the world of programming.

🙋‍♀️ Aishwarya's Motivation

My motivation for learning how to code with SheCodes stems from a lifelong fascination with the technological world. However, as I began exploring the world of coding, I couldn't help but notice the glaring gender disparity within the industry. Learning that women hold just 25% of all coding jobs and earn 30% less than men was both disheartening and motivating. I knew that I wanted to be part of the solution to bridge this gap and contribute to greater diversity and inclusivity in the tech industry. Discovering SheCodes was a turning point for me. I was impressed by its initiatives aimed at empowering women by teaching relevant skills for today's job market. The fact that SheCodes is dedicated to equipping women with the tools and knowledge needed to succeed in coding resonated deeply with me. Furthermore, seeing glowing recommendations from employees of prestigious organizations like Google, Airbnb, GitHub, and Facebook only solidified my desire to be a part of the SheCodes community. Knowing that SheCodes is highly regarded by professionals in the industry gave me confidence in the quality of education and experience it offers. Since learning about SheCodes, I've been eager to attend its coding workshops and immerse myself in the unique skills and experiences it provides so that I can improve my job skills. I see SheCodes not just as a coding program but as a supportive community where I can learn, grow, and connect with like-minded individuals who share my passion for coding and gender equality in tech.

🤹‍♀️ Aishwarya's Hobbies

I like to escape to the world of literature whenever I have some time on my hands. Reading holds a very special place in my life; my favorite genre is literary fiction. Reading opens my mind to different experiences that people have had, the kind of lives they have lived. It opens my eyes to new experiences; also, I love beautiful phrases that make you think and ponder about the what-ifs. My favorite authors are Fredrick Backman, Celeste Ng, and Taylor Jenkins Reid. I also like to watch 'The Daily Show', previously hosted by Trevor Noah, as it helps to keep me up to date with the various happenings around the world along with perspectives of different people, meanwhile providing a respectful comedic relief. Reading and watching 'The Daily Show' with authors and presenters from different backgrounds gives me insight into the world and how it might be different for different people. On a lighter note, I am also an avid fan of football. There's nothing quite as exhilarating as watching your favorite player shoot the winning goal when you least expect it. I love how sports like football or even a book, show or an artist you love makes a friend out of a stranger. Lastly, I also enjoy expressing my creativity through drawing and design. Whether it's creating a birthday card for my parents or delving into UI/UX design for a project, I find fulfilment in the creative process.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
