Anh's Story To talk about how I first became interested in coding, my working environment gave me a chance to know about coding. Sometimes, I went to the Developer team and asked them about problems. Then they shared with me something related to coding, I felt amazing about this. I was curious how they could do this, how they could make real products from my ideas by coding lines. I realized coding is more creativity, and making things come to life. Coders like an artist. They create something and people interact with, use, touch and work with. That is a miracle feeling. Thus, this was the first time I had desired to learn how to code. After finding information about coding, I understand it is not an easy task or an easy job. People have a tendency to do the things they are good at but I like exploring the limit of myself. Thus, I normally try unfamiliar fields even I could meet struggles. One person wrote in Quora that anybody could be taught how to code if they really put their mind to it, but few have the patience and motivation. This makes me stronger to conquer the journey. It could take time and effort to understand or succeed in coding but I am willing to learn and enjoy it. In addition, beyond learning how to code, I set up a goal to make my own website where I can share my ideas, my knowledge, my hobbies and deliver positive things to everyone, following my styles.

🙋‍♀️ Anh's Motivation

There are some reasons why I would like to be a learner of SheCodes. Firstly, I work as an intern business analyst in a technology company in Vietnam at the present; therefore, I have opportunities to work with stakeholders, especially the Developer (Dev) team. When I corporate with the Dev team, I meet struggles in understanding what they do and communicating with them. They normally mentioned to me as a person who does not know about coding. Thus I desire to raise my voice and demonstrate that I could code well and I am a girl. Secondly, along with the development of technology, I realize coding is a great job to pursuit. Many IT jobs with high salaries and good working environments open in not only Vietnam but also worldwide. Thus, learning how to code can bring a better world to me. To be honest, I have not known about Shecodes until I read a post on the Opportunity Hunting page. Luckily, the chance comes to me when I truly need to learn how to code but I do not know where can I start from. I also visit the website shecodesfoundation.org to find information and see great feedbacks from participants in different countries around the world. From this point, I am more convinced that if I have an opportunity to be a part of your program, it will be an excellent event that can change my life. Furthermore, I will share my knowledge and my skills, what I am taught from your courses to my friends, my girls who want to be coders but they give up their dream because of prejudice. I am sure that I will deliver your spirit to all the women in both Vietnam and other countries. Finally, I hope I can get your scholarship and your support in the way to being a product developer. Thank you so much for your time and consideration!

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
