Barbara's Story I won't lie and say I recall at which point in my life di I discover that there is a thing called coding in computers. But when I discovered it, I was hooked because I've always had an inquisitive mind. If something was interesting to me, I wanted to know what happens in order for it to be possible. For instance, as a young girl who loved watching tv I was interested on how are we actually able to watch it or how we are able to change and it actually responds and does what we want from it.

🙋‍♀️ Barbara's Motivation

Working with computers has always looked interesting for me as a young black girl, even though I did not understand what exactly do these people do. As I grew older and started to understand the different jobs that have to do with "working with computers", I grew to find interest in being a Software Developer / Engineer one day.

🤹‍♀️ Barbara's Hobbies

Apart from reading about the latest Tech news, I am also into reading and writing. I enjoy cooking and taking calming walks with music (the kind would depend on my mood that day) in the morning or just before the sun sets.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
