Belinda 's Story I became interested in coding after COVID-19 affected businesses belonging to a number of friends and colleagues in Zimbabwe through social distancing rules and regulations. Shops closures affected physical businesses in a distinctly negative way. However, digital businesses or those with a strong digital presence have flourished since 2020. I would like to expand my knowledge of coding to explore the digital landscape and hopefully find an opportunity to start a business online or understand how I can apply my current profession as a researcher into a digital environment.

🙋‍♀️ Belinda 's Motivation

I am motivated to understand coding because I have become more aware of the growing importance of programming for everyday life and work. Understanding programming is becoming more relevant in professional environments as jobs are becoming increasingly reliant on technology. Zimbabwe is lagging behind in tech developments but this can be changed if exposure to programming and digital tools grows. I would like to prepare myself for the growing influence of technology as a professional, budding entrepreneur and as a parent of two young children who will grow up in an environment regulated by technology.

🤹‍♀️ Belinda 's Hobbies

I love listening to music, playing with the kids and finding quiet spots in nature.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
