Benafsha's Story A little while before I along with my family came to Iran, I participated in an online class where I studied basic computer programs, like word, excel, PowerPoint etc. At the end of the program I found myself really interested in digital and computer programs and wanted to learn more because before I had difficulty using a PC even for personal needs, but the basic knowledge I acquired, helped me a lot. Thus, as I was using this knowledge for academics, I was curious about how did creators make such programs. One example would be the social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram we use or even games. I was wondering, where does even the foundation begin? This was when I figured that all what we use daily, all the apps we have on our phones are created and designed by an endless amount of numbers and codes. When I was ready to start learning coding, we traveled here, but I didn’t stop and wanted to follow this field of study. And here I am with this chance to finally dive into the world of coding, and I am still as excited and curious as I was back then, so I want to make the best use of this opportunity.

🙋‍♀️ Benafsha's Motivation

Aside from the fact that my interest in computer and coding started from an online class, I have one more reason for learning coding with SheCodes. I want to be a developer and create apps for educational and academic purposes. For example, Duolingo is an app that both my sister and I use to learn English language which is quite efficient, and Handy is an app that I use to learn drawing. Basically, in today’s world where apps have made it so much easier for one to pick up a new skill regardless of who and where they are, I want to innovate and provide users with the knowledge they seek. For instance, I would like to create an app for beginner artists because from my experience, it was hard to learn the basics, but with the app I will develop, users will get access to fine materials and tutorials to further advance to new levels.

🤹‍♀️ Benafsha's Hobbies

My hobbies are as follows. Firstly, I draw because it calms me down and allows me to be creative. Secondly, I read because I am a big fan of comics and fiction. Thirdly, I study ICT through YouTube videos. Finally, I want to be healthy, so I exercise regularly.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
