Gabriella's Story Funnily enough, my interest was sparked when I discovered a rootkit had been planted on my laptop. I spent months trying to figure out what the issue was, how to go about fixing it, and spent approximately 2520 hours between November 2022 and March 2023 (my paranoia triggered my anxiety and mood disorder, so I was staying awake up 5 days at a time and was eventually hospitalized for sleep deprivation) before finally giving in and taking it to an IT tech who confirmed that I was right, there was a rootkit, and then assisted me by replacing my motherboard. Suffice to say, I was bitten by the coding bug and have been trying to teach myself since!
My biggest motivation for wanting to study further is to offer my family a better life than I've had thus far. As a South African with no education further than my high school diploma, my job opportunities are extremely scarce, and the companies that ARE willing to hire me aren't willing to pay enough for me to even cover my rent. I also have disabilities and struggle to leave my house most days; while this very rarely impacts my ability to perform my duties in a work-from-home setting, it drastically impacts my work opportunities as I can't apply for jobs that require me to work on-premises.
I spend all of my free time reading fantasy novels and compiling resources to try teach myself how to code. I'm really passionate about learning and expanding my knowledge, so I've become a little bit obsessed!
