Iryna's Story I have first heard of coding in University, but didn’t paid too much attention to that. However, once started mastering the art of SEO I have realized that not only the keywords there matter. You should also understand how the page is built, how its technical parameters can be improved, etc, etc. But, unfortunately, the only thing I could do to fix any issue on the website is to ask my colleagues, who are much more experienced in this area. So, my interest towards coding become even stronger after a year. Moreover, I believe that with coding I can develop the essential hard skills not only to do SEO, but also help to create engaging websites from a scratch.

🙋‍♀️ Iryna's Motivation

Currently, I am working as an SEO Specialist, but very often have troubles understanding the website code lines I need to analyze. Last year I decided to learn coding, but the fear that the “pure philologist” won’t be able to become a web developer was stronger. Today, I understand that my life is in my own hands, and only I can be responsible for the future. Like many other refugees from Ukraine, I realized how critical is to remain here to resist other orks trying to occupy my country. My resistance is to become an expert in what I am doing and help rebuild the economy of my country. That’s my personal challenge.

🤹‍♀️ Iryna's Hobbies

My best hobby that helps me anytime and in nearly any situation is reading books. This works as a meditation for me during the hardest times (under the hardest I mean the divorce of my parents at 16 and today’s war - two most terrific things for me personally) Just like any learning process, reading helps to get your mind off a stressful situation and focus on the other things described in the book. The same role studying did, when I was at university: I inputted plenty of time and effort studying Chinese, which opened up lots of different opportunities - I met new friends and learned more about Chinese. I believe, that my next hobby will be to master the coding and help other people to bring their dream projects into reality:)

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
