Maria Isabel's Story I used to be part of the tech community back in Guayaquil, helping with some workshops and events (Drupal Association). I was part of DrupalCon Latam (Bogotá) and Drupal Con Guayaquil, and this made me realize coding was for me. Also, I got my minor in Big data, and learning about this has always been my main focus,.

🙋‍♀️ Maria Isabel's Motivation

When I first got involved with tech, it was because of the Drupal Association and I've never thought about how the tech community has so few women in there. They see coding women as unicorns and I want to break that pattern. As a Communications and Marketing Consultant, I feel the urge to know more about the business and that includes coding. I do feel the responsibility to give my clients a better experience and I know that to get there, I need to understand everything that's happening behind their websites.

🤹‍♀️ Maria Isabel's Hobbies

Baking is my passion and traveling keeps me sane. I enjoy long walks and going to the park, I feel like nature calms me and reading is a great way to escape.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
