Maryam's Story I first became interested in coding when I realized the power and potential of technology to create positive change and solve real-world problems. As an Afghan girl growing up in a society where access to education and opportunities can be limited, I saw coding as a way to empower myself and make a difference. I was inspired by stories of women in tech who were breaking barriers and making significant contributions to the industry. Additionally, I was fascinated by the creativity and problem-solving aspects of coding, as well as the endless possibilities for innovation and growth in the tech field. This sparked my curiosity and motivated me to learn more about coding and pursue it as a skill that could open up new opportunities for me.

As an Afghan girl, my motivation for learning how to code with SheCodes is to empower myself and gain valuable skills that can help me pursue a successful career in the tech industry. I want to break barriers and challenge stereotypes by showing that girls from Afghanistan can excel in coding and technology. I also see coding as a tool for creating positive change in my community and contributing to the development of my country. By learning how to code with SheCodes, I am taking a step towards achieving my goals and making a difference in the world.

🤹‍♀️ Maryam's Hobbies

Some of my hobbies include reading, writing, and painting. I love getting lost in a good book and exploring different worlds through literature. Writing allows me to express my thoughts and emotions creatively, while painting is a relaxing and therapeutic outlet for me. I also enjoy hiking and being outdoors, as nature has a way of rejuvenating my spirit and providing a sense of peace. Additionally, I like trying out new recipes and cooking for friends and family, as food has a way of bringing people together. Overall, I find joy in engaging in activities that stimulate my mind, nourish my soul, and allow me to connect with others.

Maryam's coding training

Maryam has gained access to SheCodes Plus for at no cost. It’s a 4 month coding training that’ll take her from a beginner to a professional.

She'll learn popular technologies, from HTML, CSS, JavaScript and development tools. She'll also get to build her own online portfolio to showcase to potential employers!

2. Basics Add-on (1 week)
3. Plus Coding Workshop (8 weeks)
4. Plus Add-on (2 weeks)

Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.
