Mezeker's Story My older brother is a software developer so I have known about the topic of coding for quite a long time but my interest in coding sparked when I finished my internship. During my internship at the University of Gondar Hospital, I was faced with really big challenges so I started wondering a lot about how to manage them. Later on, I found out about digital health, health informatics and their role in solving challenges in the hospital. The backbone of digital health and health informatics is coding so my interest started then.

🙋‍♀️ Mezeker's Motivation

Digital health is one of the new filed in the health sector. It is flourishing at a great speed across the world. Here in Ethiopia where I am currently living, digital health has a great role in changing the underdeveloped health system in my country to achieve equity, accessibility and great quality for the people seeking medical care. Me as just newly graduated medical doctor think that I can play a big role to achieve a well-developed health system as someone who works on digital health as a programmer so learning how to code is not just a hobby but a necessity for me. I can be an inspiration for female medical graduates to take a turn on their lane of clinical practice and shift to digital health as a coder since digital health plays a major role in the healthcare sector.

🤹‍♀️ Mezeker's Hobbies

It is quite obvious, as a medical doctor reading is my number one hobby. I have gained a lot through that. My other hobbies could be taking walks, singing.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
