Nomahlubi's Story My journey into coding began unexpectedly during high school when a teacher, deviating from the curriculum, introduced me to its basics alongside computer fundamentals. Unbeknownst to me then, this seemingly off-course lesson laid the foundation for skills crucial to my future endeavours and the establishment of an organisation dedicated to community service. Later, at my previous place of employment, I was introduced to data analysis on a small scale. That got me curious, and I found out big companies have coders who manage their websites and apps. That made me think: learning to code could really boost what I do with my organisation, Kemnet Networks Lesotho. This realisation propelled me to explore coding extensively, as I envision it as an invaluable addition to my skill set. I am driven by the profound belief that coding will not only enhance my personal capabilities but will also be instrumental in advancing the impact and effectiveness of Kemnet Networks Lesotho in serving our community.

🙋‍♀️ Nomahlubi's Motivation

I am compelled to embark on the journey of learning to code with a singular goal—to fortify my role as a mental health advocate for women and the LGBTIQ+ community through my Kemnet Networks Lesotho. In recognising the transformative potential of coding, I am fuelled by the vision of leveraging technology to revolutionise mental health support. As a founder deeply committed to combating the mental health crisis, mastering coding equips me with the tools to create digital resources tailored to the unique challenges faced by these marginalised communities. The prospect of developing user-friendly apps and online platforms promises to revolutionise the accessibility and immediacy of mental health assistance. Moreover, coding provides the means to collect and analyse data systematically. Armed with this skill, I can amplify our advocacy efforts by presenting compelling evidence of the mental health struggles prevalent among the women and LGBTIQ+ individuals we serve. Learning to code is a strategic move to position Kemnet Networks Lesotho at the forefront of tech-driven mental health solutions. This journey aligns seamlessly with our commitment to innovation, digital literacy, and ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of mental well-being. Essentially, learning to code is about crafting a new language of empowerment, resilience, and hope for those who need it most.

🤹‍♀️ Nomahlubi's Hobbies

My hobbies include content creation on subjects such as cooking, vlogs, DIY projects, and arts and crafts. My preferred platforms for content creation are Tik Tok and Instagram. Furthermore, I enjoy using Canva to create posters for projects that my organisation Kemnet Networks Lesotho is involved in.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
