Nomfundo's Story It was first through movies and subsequently through realities; From when we had a black and white television, CD player and numerous DVD movies, I've always shown interest in movies with computer operators. The Matrix is one of my favorites, and no I have no intentions of misusing my skills and knowledge I will gain from this prestigious foundation. As I grew older I further developed an interest in reading about computers and understanding how communication has became so fast and reliable, and human trust in the storage of delicate, confidential and financial information. The more I learn the more I feel sure about my interests in coding and my interest is relatively innate. I am also learning that the coding field has improved for the better overtime from what it used to be. We now have "front -end programming and back-end programming" which is modernly referred to as "full-stack programming." Also there are so many languages that have been surfaced like Java, COBOL, C++ and many others. I am sure it will be a productive and worthwhile experience for me if admitted. I plead and hope that I don't want to miss this rare opportunity.

🙋‍♀️ Nomfundo's Motivation

As a young girl, I have put a lot of efforts by familiarizing myself with the ever-dynamic, rudiments and tenets of computers, its usage, education and acquiring a preliminary coding experience. Though I hail from a small village in South Africa, where most people are farmer workers hunters. My village was late in civilization and modern developments such as running water, electricity, tar roads. My primary school had 10 computers for different and each class of 30 students had 25min to take turns. I never let that sway me down. I became one of the strongest basic users as I could type a sentence that contains all the letters of the alphabet (The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog) the fastest. My computer teacher would playfully say I should be the school's typist. This even motivated me to be focused in computer studies until I learnt about Information Technology as a career however I needed to own a computer, which was impossible for me as my grandparents wouldn't afford one. I continued learning more about computers and kept familiarizing my self with computers. I have been reading more about coding and developed and interest and decided to pursue a career in coding. Unlike many other parts of Computer Education, Coding seems to need a lot of tutelage for one to understand it better, hence why I have submitted myself to SheCodes Foundation to teach, groom, nurture and mentor me through-out this exciting experience. I am aware that that one of the most painful things to happen to anyone is not to achieve one's dream prior to the debacles and opaques of where he/she hails from. I am hereby pleading on compassionate grounds that SheCodes Foundation should approve me a chance so as not to let my dream die inside me.

🤹‍♀️ Nomfundo's Hobbies

I am more of a hardworking person so I find things that are athletic in nature fun. I enjoy running, swimming, dancing, singing, traveling and learning about the world with its different people and cultures. When I am not working, I am usually surfing the internet, researching, or just reflexing on better ways to get things done. I also enjoy creating story books on shuttle fly or canva and storing those memories for future generations.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
