Sbongile's Story I first became interested in coding during my high school years. It all started when I encountered a repetitive task while working on a school project. I found myself manually sorting and organizing large sets of data, which was not only time-consuming but also prone to errors. Frustrated with this inefficiency, I began to wonder if there was a better way to tackle the problem. Curious and determined to find a solution, I turned to the internet for guidance. As I delved deeper into my search, I stumbled upon coding tutorials and resources that promised to automate tasks like the one I was facing. Intrigued by the idea of writing instructions for a computer to follow, I decided to give it a try. Starting with basic tutorials on programming languages like Python and JavaScript, I gradually began to understand the fundamentals of coding. The more I learned, the more fascinated I became with the power of programming to solve real-world problems efficiently. From then on, my passion for coding only grew stronger. I immersed myself in learning new concepts, experimenting with different programming languages, and tackling increasingly complex challenges. Whether it was developing a website, creating a mobile app, or analyzing data, I found joy in the problem-solving aspect of coding and the endless possibilities it offered. Looking back, I am grateful for that initial frustrations. Coding has become more than just a hobby or a tool for me; it's a passion that continues to drive me to explore, learn, and grow every day.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
