Shabnam 's Story I first became interested in coding when I learned about it from my brother. He works at an educational organization where changes in educational programs for girls were made due to political circumstances. Given the challenges faced by girls, coding emerged as a valuable skill for them to acquire, leading to potential income opportunities and financial independence. Following my conversation with my brother, my interest in learning this skill was sparked.

🙋‍♀️ Shabnam 's Motivation

After the fall of the government and the rise of the Taliban regime, education was restricted for girls in Afghanistan. Universities and schools were closed to girls. I was not exempt and could no longer go to university. I sought alternative ways to learn and develop valuable skills. Among these alternatives, computer programming caught my interest due to its compatibility with my circumstances as an Afghan girl facing limitations in accessing formal education. I'm banned from continuing my education as a girl and not allowed to work, I stay at home. But coding reconnects me with the world, making me feel alive, useful, and happy once again. I recognize the importance of continuous education, practice, and guidance to excel in the realm of coding. My motivation for learning with SheCodes stems from a desire to expand my skills and knowledge in a field that offers opportunities for growth and creativity. SheCodes stands out to me as the perfect platform that aligns with my aspirations - providing comprehensive instruction, mentorship from experienced professionals, practical hands-on projects, and valuable problem-solving guidance. Upon completing the SheCodes course, I am confident that I will be well-prepared to transition into the coding work environment and market, equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in this dynamic field.

🤹‍♀️ Shabnam 's Hobbies

In my free time, I like doing different things to relax. Reading books is my favorite hobby because it lets me dive into different worlds and learn new things. Watching movies is also a fun way for me to enjoy different stories and characters. And I really enjoy playing volleyball to stay active and hang out with friends. These hobbies make me happy and give me a good balance between chilling out and having fun in my daily life. They help me escape from the usual routine and have moments of discovery and excitement.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
