Sumaya's Story My journey into coding began with curiosity sparked by necessity. Growing up in a rural area where technology wasn't readily accessible, I didn't encounter coding until much later in life. It was during my university years that I first glimpsed the potential of coding to shape the world around us. A friend, who shared my passion for exploration and learning, introduced me to the basics of coding. Together, we delved into the endless possibilities of creating something out of nothing, of building solutions to real-world problems with just a few lines of code. From that moment on, I was hooked. What fascinates me most about coding is its transformative power. It's not just about typing commands into a computer; it's about unleashing creativity, problem-solving, and innovation. Learning to code opens doors to a universe of opportunities, from designing websites to developing software that can change lives. But beyond the technical skills, what drives me to learn is the desire to make a difference. I see coding as a tool for empowerment, a means to level the playing field and create opportunities for those who, like me, come from underserved communities. By mastering coding, I aim to not only shape my own future but also to empower others to do the same

🙋‍♀️ Sumaya's Motivation

Growing up in a rural area where the glow of technology wasn't part of the landscape, I never owned a laptop until I reached university. It wasn't just about affordability; it was about accessibility too. But once I got my hands on one, it felt like holding a key to a whole new world. Learning to code with SheCodes isn't just about acquiring a skill; it's about unlocking doors that were previously closed to me. The opportunity to dive into product development, design, and management isn't just about personal growth; it's about paving a path for others like me. My motivation runs deep. It's not just about securing a brighter future for myself; it's about ensuring that others from similar backgrounds have the same chance. My dream is to bring coding education to rural areas, to set up computer labs where none existed before. Because I know firsthand the transformative power of technology, and I believe everyone deserves that chance. In a world where tech is the future, I want to bridge the gap between opportunity and accessibility, one line of code at a time.

🤹‍♀️ Sumaya's Hobbies

I love exploring the outdoors, whether it's hiking through scenic trails, camping under the stars, or simply taking a leisurely stroll in nature. There's something about being surrounded by trees, mountains, and fresh air that rejuvenates me. When I'm not outdoors, I enjoy diving into a good book, immersing myself in different worlds and perspectives. Whether it's fiction, non-fiction, or poetry, I find solace and inspiration in the pages of a well-written story. I'm also passionate about cooking and experimenting with new recipes. There's a sense of satisfaction in creating delicious meals from scratch and sharing them with friends and family. And of course, I find joy in creative pursuits like painting, crafting, or playing music. Expressing myself through art allows me to unwind and tap into my imagination in ways that are both fulfilling and therapeutic.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
