Suraya's Story During my time in Pakistan, pursuing education amidst the challenges of war, I had the opportunity to witness inspiring women in the tech field. My motivation for learning to code with SheCodes stems from a deeply personal journey influenced by my background. Hailing from Afghanistan but raised in Pakistan due to the pursuit of education amidst war's challenges, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative power education holds. My father's unwavering belief in education, despite the hardships, has instilled in me a strong drive to excel. The impact of conflict on women's education in Afghanistan, including Afghan refugees in Pakistan facing new restrictions, has fueled my passion for the tech field. I firmly believe that technology offers a path to empowerment and change. Through coding, I aspire to not only uplift my family but also contribute positively to my community, offering opportunities for growth and learning. Every opportunity that leads to success is one I embrace wholeheartedly, driven by the desire to create a better future for those affected by the ravages of war.

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
