Thiri's Story As I am currently working in data collection and management, I came to learn that knowing how to code is a valuable skillset. Those of my colleagues who can code using languages like R and Python are better at data manipulation, statistical analytics and data visualization. Then, I found some friends who could create apps and websites that are very helpful in the organizations I worked in. So, I always wanted to get my start in coding as well, but I never had the chance to attend a proper coding class.

🙋‍♀️ Thiri's Motivation

I want to be able to create localized software applications that can be used by the people in our country. Currently, not many applications are easily accessible for people who can only read Myanmar language and are not very fluent in English. So, it causes such a digital divide especially for people in the rural area. Our people are going to be left so far behind unless we keep trying to improve digital skills right now.

🤹‍♀️ Thiri's Hobbies

I love music despite not having a good voice. I listen to almost any genre whether it's rap, rock, country, pop or etc. I also love to spend time with friends and family. I try to focus on my relationships and connecting with people because things are hard for everyone these days. Lastly, I read books in my free time. Reading fictions help me reduce stress and improve my English skills at the same time.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
