Yanet Yohannes's Story During quarantine, I was looking for ways to learn something new. I came across a software engineering course with coding challenges, even though I had no experience. I gave it a shot, using just my phone!I spent a lot of time working on the challenges, and I found I really enjoyed figuring them out. While I wasn't able to complete the final website project ( too much for my beginner skills), the course helped me discover that I like coding and want to learn more.

🙋‍♀️ Yanet Yohannes's Motivation

I'm excited about SheCodes because it aligns perfectly with my passion for coding and my desire to make a positive impact. While I'm eager to gain a strong foundation in web development, mobile app development, and related technologies, my ultimate goal is to use these skills to create meaningful applications that can empower others. SheCodes' mission to bridge the gender gap in tech deeply resonates with me. I believe programs like SheCodes that provide free coding education for women in developing countries and refugees are crucial steps towards a more equitable tech industry. By participating in SheCodes, I hope to not only develop my own programming abilities but also contribute to a future where more women have access to these valuable skills.

🤹‍♀️ Yanet Yohannes's Hobbies

I enjoy channeling my creativity into UI/UX design and coding. I also have a passion for interior design and various art forms.

🎯

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
