Zwivhuya's Story I had initially studied a higher certification qualification in mathematics because I excelled in Maths in high school. And the highlight of all the modules I took was CMPG which was a coding module and it showed us how even maths can be found in coding. I loved how proud I felt after understanding and successfully attempting different activities on Python and CSharp. I then realised, I was pursuing the wrong career and I wanted to ensure whatever I did, even if it could uplift me from my current situation, I needed to truly enjoy it so I’d continue to stay motivated and be ambitious in it. So right now I would love to learn as much as possible and utilise it as an actual skill in making a living.

🙋‍♀️ Zwivhuya's Motivation

When I came across someone talking about SheCodes, I was automatically interested when o hear that it’s was aimed to women specifically and it accommodated any schedule which was perfect as I am currently looking for work to make money and I worried if I would be able to juggle both. I completely support the mission and values of SheCode and the fact that this is an intentionally recognised workshop, i know there will be no limits to the skills I can develop through SheCodes. There are honestly a lot of fake learning institutions in South Africa where people pay thousands of Rands and invest so much time, only for them to be rejected when applying for work due to their credentials being unaccredited. Knowing that I don’t have to worry about that with SheCodes, motivates me more to know I will definitely receive a return on investment from my time and dedication.

🤹‍♀️ Zwivhuya's Hobbies

I’m a very creative person, so I’m my free time I make candles, draw and design, do beadwork (and hopefully I’ll be able to make a profit from these hobbies when I master them). I also read a lot and I am very involved at church (I am the Chairperson of our youth committee— St Peter’s Anglican Church) so I keep busy as much as I can.

🎯

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
