Van Anh's Story Being born in Vietnam in the years of 2000s, it was not until I was in the fifth grade did I have a first glimpse at the world’s greatest invention - a computer and have chance to hear the word “Internet” for the first time in my life. I remember vividly my first time playing a game on a computer. I was falling over myself for a game called Bomb IT, in which I played as an animated character, finding the way to kill the bad guys. I played in a team of 3, with my brother and cousin. The game begged the question in my mind of how the characters moved or acted with only the command of buttons on the keyboard. I grew the interest in coding since then and found myself a basic coding program for games. I got to the creating a loop for game in that program and it required fee so I could not afford it as I was a student. This drove me closer to the desire of learning more about coding. My interest in coding grows from the exciting of the first game to the curiousness in how it works and then to the real passion in coding.

🙋‍♀️ Van Anh's Motivation

As the first landing on a computer game when in the fifth grade, I was immediately into how the game worked with a simple command on the keyboard. Back to high school, I started to do research about coding. However, with limited resources and the lack of proper methods to access high-qualified information, I didn’t get many chances to learn about it. And as many Vietnamese girls who are not encouraged in developing career in Technical related field, I got in a university which specializes in Economics. Not giving up on coding, I found myself a coding program and made it to the loop creation in games. It then required fee and I couldn’t afford it. I continued to do research about Python with free resources on Internet and got more serious about coding. After a while following pages about coding, I found SheCodes which is a program empowering the women in developing countries to learn code for free. With SheCodes, I believe that I have great mentor with solid knowledge and skillset in coding so that I can develop my career more in Tech as I’m working in IT field at the moment.

🤹‍♀️ Van Anh's Hobbies

I like watching documentary series about criminals, psychology, cosmology and technology and science. Watching movies also helps me improve my English skills. I also like cooking to reduce stress when I have free time. Even though I’m not at cooking, I get better everyday.
