Humairah's Story I've always wondered how the internet and web worked, how it came about and how it was possible for me to enter a prompt and have access to so much information at the tip of my fingers but I realized that I've never explored and learnt how it's possible for me to have a platform, have buttons and insert a series of words to get an answer to a question and I always brushed it off, a part of me thought it comes from some imaginary place somewhere somehow. I first heard about coding through tiktok which I find to be a bit overwhelming, I was unsure about coding and whether development is for me until a fellow student on a university group said that she's doing a course with Shecodes, I immediately googled and registered for the free coding class. I have little to no knowledge about coding and remember a while back I mistakenly pressed the wrong keys on my keyboard while on chrome and it made the website background coding pop up and I remember initially wondering whether or not I broke my laptop due to all the random words and numbers. I somehow managed to get it to go away (and breathed a sigh of relief)...I learnt from the coding class that those strange words and numbers were actually lines of code and that the background coding pop up was actually something people, intentionally, use. After learning what coding is, why it's important and how to get started from the free coding class I was immediately interested. I was introduced to Html, css and Javascript which I vaguely heard about previously but now understood a bit better. After attending the class I was more confident and could make a better informed decision to learn coding. I'm interested in coding because it's something I'm unfamiliar with and therefore something I know I would love to explore and learn about.
