Leila's Story Ever since I wrote my first line of code as a university student, I knew it was something I would enjoy doing for a living. Although until recently I always thought that starting a career in coding would require me to switch from industrial engineering to computer engineering. I looked up some other courses, but most weren't for beginners. And honestly, I didn’t know where to begin. Thanks to the 60 minutes SheCodes.come class with Matt as the teacher, I learned more about the world of coding and how to begin, and what I could do as a coder, and how to know what are my favorite areas of coding than I ever was able to gather from asking around and looking up the Internet.

🙋‍♀️ Leila's Motivation

I believe this course is perfect for me and if I received a spot in this class it would be the beginning of the path of developing the career of my dream. After my contract at my previous company was not renewed along with many other high-ranking female managers due to the appointment of a religious man as CEO who believed women's place is at home, so as a single woman I had to start working from home as a translator. Although it pays the bills, in the economy, I am facing in nowadays Iran, I am always behind. At some point, I considered becoming a professional translator in order to improve my financial situation, but it just wasn't my passion.

🤹‍♀️ Leila's Hobbies

Well, I have to work very long hours just to provide the basics. I am very passionate about nature and love to hike from time to time and I also enjoy long walks in the early morning through parks. I occasionally stream movies or TV shows since I don't watch television. I enjoy reading books with philosophical, or historical or psychological subjects. Handcrafts are also something I enjoy, especially practical products like making and sewing an outfit from scratch, or knitting what I need, so my style is based more on my personal taste instead of store bought clothes.

The SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women hold only 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less than men. In many developing countries, over 65% of women lack bank accounts, making it difficult to invest in their education.

The SheCodes Foundation is changing that. We provide women in developing countries with free coding education, equipping them with the skills to build a better future. In partnership with SheCodes, we offer training in product development, design, and management, empowering women to thrive in the tech industry.
