Lerato's Story I first became interested in coding when I was studying at Belgium Campus ITversity, where I was specializing in software development. Being part of that program opened my eyes to the world of technology and gave me a whole new perspective on what’s possible with coding. I was amazed by how powerful technology is — how it can solve real problems, create opportunities, and even change lives. Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties, my sponsor had to drop out, and I was forced to leave the program. It was a tough moment, but my love for technology never left me. That experience only deepened my passion and made me more determined to find my way back into tech. Now, I see every opportunity to learn, like SheCodes as a chance to reignite that passion and keep building the future I once started working toward.

🙋‍♀️ Lerato's Motivation

My motivation for learning how to code with SheCodes is rooted in my desire to build a future-proof career and create real-world solutions through technology. I’m passionate about learning new skills and believe that coding can empower me to solve problems, think critically, and even bring my own ideas to life. I’m especially drawn to SheCodes because of its supportive environment for women in tech. Being part of a community where I can learn, grow, and get inspired by others motivates me even more. I want to use coding to improve not just my career prospects, but also to create tools or websites that help others, whether in education, small business, or community outreach. Learning with SheCodes would be a powerful step toward making that dream a reality.

🤹‍♀️ Lerato's Hobbies

In my free time, I love exploring both creative and hands-on hobbies. I enjoy pottery, crocheting, and painting, they give me a sense of calm and let me express myself in different ways. There's something really satisfying about creating something beautiful from scratch, whether it's a clay bowl, a cozy scarf, or a colorful painting. On the tech side, I also really enjoy coding for fun. I like experimenting with small projects, learning new programming languages, and seeing how I can bring ideas to life through code. It’s a different kind of creativity, but just as exciting and rewarding.

The SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women hold only 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less than men. In many developing countries, over 65% of women lack bank accounts, making it difficult to invest in their education.

The SheCodes Foundation is changing that. We provide women in developing countries with free coding education, equipping them with the skills to build a better future. In partnership with SheCodes, we offer training in product development, design, and management, empowering women to thrive in the tech industry.
