Memory 's Story I first became interested in coding when I was working on a data science project and needed a way to share it online. I quickly realized that creating a website required skills I didn’t have so I started learning out of necessity. But what began as a simple goal soon turned into a passion. As I wrote my first lines of code and saw my ideas come to life on the screen, I felt empowered. It was like unlocking a whole new world where I could build, create, and express myself in ways I never imagined. Coding gave me more than just technical knowledge but it gave me confidence and a new sense of purpose. That’s when I knew I wanted to go deeper, keep learning, and explore the full potential of tech.

🙋‍♀️ Memory 's Motivation

My motivation to learn how to code with SheCodes comes from a deep desire to empower myself as an African woman in tech and to bring my ideas to life through technology. I started learning to code because I wanted to showcase my data science projects online—but what I discovered was a passion I never expected. Through SheCodes, I’ve already learned the fundamentals of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, APIs, and hosting. That experience was transformative as it didn’t just give me technical skills, it gave me confidence. Now, I want to take the next step: learning React and building responsive websites that work beautifully across devices and reach more people. I believe technology should be inclusive, accessible, and empowering, especially for underrepresented voices. I want to use my skills not just for personal growth, but to build tools that serve communities, tell stories, and create impact. SheCodes has created a space where women like me feel seen, supported, and encouraged to dream bigger. That’s why I’m applying for this scholarship because I know this journey is far from over, and I’m ready to keep learning, keep building, and keep rising.

🤹‍♀️ Memory 's Hobbies

Outside of coding, I love storytelling in all its forms—whether it's through writing, designing something beautiful, or creating digital projects that inspire. I enjoy journaling, watching inspiring documentaries, and diving into podcasts that explore tech, innovation, and personal growth. I’m also really passionate about community-building and helping others, so I often spend time volunteering or brainstorming ways technology can be used to solve real-life problems, especially in African communities. And when I need to unwind? You'll probably find me dancing to some good music, exploring nature, or lost in a good book. Balance is everything!

The SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women hold only 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less than men. In many developing countries, over 65% of women lack bank accounts, making it difficult to invest in their education.

The SheCodes Foundation is changing that. We provide women in developing countries with free coding education, equipping them with the skills to build a better future. In partnership with SheCodes, we offer training in product development, design, and management, empowering women to thrive in the tech industry.
