Olena's Story The IT world is a world of smart people and I always respected smart brains. But at the same time I saw that it was a "male world", which didn't let women inside. So, I decided to start learning by myself, just as a hobby. I filled out the official web-site on my previous job, updated the news line, so I had to learn a bit of HTML. Later I studied C and the basics of Python. I like Python because it opens a window of opportunities in the future. After all these efforts I clearly understand that I lacked professional guidance to succeed and a persuasion that "It IS for women". I am very glad that you do encourage women to start coding. And thank you for providing us with an opportunity to learn how to code for free.

🙋‍♀️ Olena's Motivation

In the next several years AI will substitute human labor in the majority of professions. And I don't want to be left aside. I understand that without coding skills I won't be valuable in the labor market. Being a refugee, I understand that I have either to switch for IT or to work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid sectors. I want to combine my knowledge from my previous degree and experience from the before-war life with coding skills to get new career opportunities in our increasingly technological job markets.

🤹‍♀️ Olena's Hobbies

I enjoy observing the beauty of nature and exploring new beautiful parts of our wonderful world. I like animals. I used to have 2 lovely dogs. And I dream of having a puppy after the end of the war. I am a refugee now and not many host people let you have a pet. So I have to postpone this dream for later. I like reading, classical music and cooking. Figure skating is my favorite sport.

The SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women hold only 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less than men. In many developing countries, over 65% of women lack bank accounts, making it difficult to invest in their education.

The SheCodes Foundation is changing that. We provide women in developing countries with free coding education, equipping them with the skills to build a better future. In partnership with SheCodes, we offer training in product development, design, and management, empowering women to thrive in the tech industry.
