Palesa's Story When I was in high school, I did Computer Applications Technology where we spent 3 years working with html and web development and I would spend a lot of hours just trying to better my web pages. So this was my first encounter of something similar to coding.

🙋‍♀️ Palesa's Motivation

Whilst in higher school, I took Computer Applications Technology as a subject where I was introduced to web page development and that’s where my love for the tech industry started. Currently, I would love to transition into the tech field. I had always assumed that one had to go and study for 3 to 4 years at a university in order to get the opportunity to work in tech. But through numerous TikTok videos of individuals talking about going into coding through just being part of boot camps, I started to feel like there’s hope for me to still enter the tech space. With the high youth unemployment rate here in South Africa, I think that it is so important to have skills that are in demand in contrast to a degree, because being a graduate has not made my job hunting journey easier..

🤹‍♀️ Palesa's Hobbies

I love reading novels and trying out new recipes and visiting new places.

The SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women hold only 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less than men. In many developing countries, over 65% of women lack bank accounts, making it difficult to invest in their education.

The SheCodes Foundation is changing that. We provide women in developing countries with free coding education, equipping them with the skills to build a better future. In partnership with SheCodes, we offer training in product development, design, and management, empowering women to thrive in the tech industry.
