Rehmet's Story My interest in coding began when I was first introduced to computers and technology. I was always curious about how websites, apps, and software worked behind the scenes. This curiosity led me to explore programming, and when I wrote my first lines of code, I was fascinated by how I could create something functional from just text. As I learned more, I realized that coding is not just about writing instructions for a computer but also about problem-solving and creativity. This inspired me to pursue software engineering at Bahir Dar University, where I have been deepening my knowledge of programming concepts and development techniques. Now, I want to take my skills further by gaining practical experience, especially in web development. That’s why I am excited about SheCodes—it offers hands-on learning that will help me apply my coding skills to real-world projects and grow as a developer.

🙋‍♀️ Rehmet's Motivation

As a software engineering student at Bahir Dar University, I am passionate about coding and eager to enhance my skills through practical learning experiences. I am applying for the SheCodes scholarship because it offers a structured and hands-on approach to web development, which will complement my university education and help me gain real-world coding experience. While my studies provide a strong theoretical foundation, I want to deepen my understanding of front-end development, improve my problem-solving skills, and build real projects that showcase my abilities. SheCodes’ curriculum, mentorship, and community will give me the opportunity to learn modern technologies, collaborate with like-minded individuals, and apply my knowledge in meaningful ways. By gaining coding expertise through SheCodes, I hope to expand my career opportunities and contribute to the tech industry with innovative solutions. My goal is to become a skilled developer who can create impactful digital products and inspire more women to pursue technology. This scholarship will be a crucial step toward achieving my dreams, and I am excited about the possibility of joining the SheCodes learning community.

🤹‍♀️ Rehmet's Hobbies

Outside of studying software engineering, I am also passionate about graphics and design. I love exploring creative tools like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to bring ideas to life visually. Designing allows me to express myself artistically while also enhancing my technical skills. I also enjoy working on small coding projects, where I try to combine my love for design and programming to create visually appealing and functional applications. This blend of creativity and logic keeps me motivated. Beyond tech and design, I like reading books—especially self-improvement and science fiction—listening to music, and watching documentaries about history and innovation. Spending time outdoors and socializing with friends also helps me stay balanced and inspired.

The SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women hold only 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less than men. In many developing countries, over 65% of women lack bank accounts, making it difficult to invest in their education.

The SheCodes Foundation is changing that. We provide women in developing countries with free coding education, equipping them with the skills to build a better future. In partnership with SheCodes, we offer training in product development, design, and management, empowering women to thrive in the tech industry.
