Sharon's Story My interest in coding started as a simple curiosity about how apps and systems worked. I remember being particularly intrigued by the system at our local hospital; I thought it was impressive how it kept things orderly, unlike before, when long queues caused commotion and confusion. I later joined the ICT and Robotics club in high school, which really cemented my interest in coding. We got to interact with many industry players and get a solid introduction to HTML and JavaScript. A significant part of this journey was Farah , our trainer, really poured his heart and time into nurturing our young souls in tech during his downtime. Despite still being a university student, he volunteered his time and knowledge to teach us, connecting us to industry players and exposing us to opportunities. He showed me that making an impact does not require you to have everything figured out; sometimes it just takes the willingness to share what you know and make others grow. His example really inspired me to keep learning, keep growing and eventually use what I have learned to give back to my community and make an impact.

🙋‍♀️ Sharon's Motivation

As a first year Computer Science undergraduate student, the school year has really given me a strong foundation in programming logic and syntax through coursework in Java, C++ and Python .While the curriculum is helpful, i have realized that there is a significant gap in my practical skills .I am highly motivated to bridge this gap over my upcoming long holiday and that is exactly why I have considered the program. SheCodes offers the structured project based environment i need to build robust, production ready applications for my Git Hub portfolio before I enter my second year. As a young Kenyan woman in STEM, this scholarship will give me a technical edge, confidence and community support needed to excel in the tech ecosystem.

🤹‍♀️ Sharon's Hobbies

I love challenging my mind and beliefs, and I also love learning and letting my imagination run free. This is exactly why i love reading novels. I also adore music; if it sounds good and it speaks to my soul, it immediately earns a place on my playlist. I enjoy walks and hikes especially as a way to decompress and to recollect my thoughts.

The SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women hold only 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less than men. In many developing countries, over 65% of women lack bank accounts, making it difficult to invest in their education.

The SheCodes Foundation is changing that. We provide women in developing countries with free coding education, equipping them with the skills to build a better future. In partnership with SheCodes, we offer training in product development, design, and management, empowering women to thrive in the tech industry.
