Sofiia's Story My best friend was studying game design at the college. I was very interested to watch his success, to watch his story and the process. After a few years, I got the opportunity to work at the IT startup, closely related to the development. While studying numerous of details to do my work better as a sales development person, I explored more and more excited sides of coding and developing critical software. I was planning to start my coding education, but it was always “not the best time”. Like I will have a time to explore it later, now let’s focus on primary field. Today, staying outside of my motherland, starting the life almost from the scratch, I realized that’s the perfect time to change my life.

🙋‍♀️ Sofiia's Motivation

Taking into account my experience in Startups, I believe that tech and coding skills are essential things nowadays. I’m very grateful to my company for the opportunity to proceed with work in the current situation. But coding is the way to be independent. On 24th of February I’ve faced a huge issue - the salary I get is enough for my personal not bad life, but it’s not enough for supporting my military and my defenders. This months I’ve spent more than 60% of salary for buying critical equipment for my dad, who is staying in Kyiv as a regular civilian, but with a gun rn. He’s staying to protect my home and my life. So the major motivation for me at the moment - to stay independent, to have a possibility of working from all around the world and support my family. The second, but not the unnecessary one - coding is very interesting area for me, because I’m incredibly excited to develop things, which would help people. To dive deeper, I admire everything related to Artificial Intelligence. For me, it’s the way of the future, and I believe, that’s incredible to observe, how your invention could transform the world to the better one.

🤹‍♀️ Sofiia's Hobbies

The main my hobby before serious trauma was horse riding. I enjoyed everything about horses and being with them. Now I relax while painting. Also have bought a piano hoping to learn my favorite songs and, what’s much more important, have a chance to express my emotions/feelings in art. I like numbers. Despite that in school Math was not my favorite subject, enjoy working with numbers, logic e.g. sudoku. And I love develop something that could ease the life :)

The SheCodes Foundation is changing that. We provide women in developing countries with free coding education, equipping them with the skills to build a better future. In partnership with SheCodes, we offer training in product development, design, and management, empowering women to thrive in the tech industry.
