Thato's Story When Open AI started making headlines back in 2023, I didn’t just want to use it I wanted to understand how it actually worked. That curiosity pulled me toward a bigger question: how are websites built? How does any of this come to life? I’ve always been someone who loves creating things and figuring out how they work, so it felt natural to take that instinct and apply it to technology. The idea that I could learn to build something from scratch maybe even something that helps people is what really sealed it for me. Coding felt like the bridge between my creativity, my curiosity, and my passion for making a difference.

🙋‍♀️ Thato's Motivation

As a social worker, I’ve spent my career solving problems and finding creative ways to support people and I’ve come to realise that technology is one of the most powerful tools for creating change. I have no coding background, but that’s exactly why I’m here. I want to step outside my comfort zone, learn something completely new, and expand what I believe I’m capable of. SheCodes feels like the right place to do that a community that meets you where you are and helps you grow into someone you didn’t know you could be.

I love staying active and staying curious. You’ll find me hiking, playing volleyball, or out for a walk just as often as you’ll find me reading, solving puzzles, or researching something that sparked my interest. I have a deep love for documentaries and learning about the world around me.

Thato's coding training

Thato has gained access to SheCodes Basics and SheCodes AI Basics at no cost. Together they are a 6 week coding training that’ll take her from a complete beginner to building her first websites and AI projects.

She'll learn the foundations of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, plus how to build with AI and modern development tools. She'll also get to build her own online portfolio to showcase to potential employers!

📦 Foundation students get access to these coding workshops:
1. SheCodes Basics (3 weeks)
2. SheCodes AI Basics (3 weeks)
She’ll gain access to each portion after finishing the preceding portion. She’ll build up her coding knowledge gradually along the way. 🙌
