Yordanos Temesgen's Story I first discovered my passion for coding when I was just 13 years old, thanks to my uncle who showed me how to use Google Dev Tools to edit websites. It was an eye-opening experience that made me feel like a hacker, and from that moment, I was hooked. I transitioned from learning how to type on Mavis to delving into JavaScript, where I began declaring variables and logging shapes using loops. From then on, I found myself diving deeper into the world of programming and pushing myself to learn more about web development. Despite facing limitations in seeking guidance and sorting out accurate information, I tirelessly pursued my curiosity and explored further, ultimately leading me to choose computer science as my major. Coding is important to me because it provides convenient means of communication and a reliable source of information. I strongly believe that the skills I acquire through coding can contribute to saving lives, whether it's by developing innovative ways to provide support and assistance in the field of mental health and well-being or creating platforms for effective disaster response. Coding has the potential to make a significant impact. I am committed to leveraging this opportunity to its fullest, not only for pursuing my personal projects but also to contribute to the SheCodes Foundation's mission of empowering women in technology.

🙋‍♀️ Yordanos Temesgen's Motivation

As a woman with a computer science background in a non-technical environment, where I frequently witness extensive usage of pens, my motivation for learning how to code with SheCodes stems from recognizing the gaps that can be filled with technology. Witnessing my dad struggle with time-consuming paper-based processes in running his business has driven me to actively research and identify the areas where I need to gain experience in order to effectively bridge those gaps. Additionally, I'm incredibly enthusiastic about using technology to bring my silly yet potentially impactful ideas to life. Drawing from my previous experiences in learning technologies, I have come to realize that active participation is the key to my personal growth. Therefore, I am fully prepared to embrace challenges, adhere to the schedule, and wholeheartedly invest myself in the process of learning, while also actively contributing to the growth of others.

🤹‍♀️ Yordanos Temesgen's Hobbies

I thoroughly enjoy sketching diverse characters and designing unique, traditional outfits in my spare time. I also like listening to music, (Lidsey Sterling's music to be specific). Currently, I am embarking on a journey to add 'Reading Documentations' to my list of hobbies!

The SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women hold only 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less than men. In many developing countries, over 65% of women lack bank accounts, making it difficult to invest in their education.

The SheCodes Foundation is changing that. We provide women in developing countries with free coding education, equipping them with the skills to build a better future. In partnership with SheCodes, we offer training in product development, design, and management, empowering women to thrive in the tech industry.
